World of Warcraft Item Upgrade and Set Bonuses
The upgrade to an item is an enchantment that boosts the stats of a specific weapons or armor. This includes secondary stats such as Leech or Speed.

Leveling

Weapons require Destruction Stones while armor requires Guardian or Harmony Leapstones. When an item is upgraded, the materials are changed in their names. For instance, Stone Fragments becomes Stones and Harmony Shards becomes Life Shards.
It is important to upgrade items to increase the performance of a character. However it is equally important to think about how much this will cost. Every time an item gets upgraded, it costs an amount of gold which could be better spent on a new piece of gear. This is why it is best to upgrade only the most important items in any given circumstance.
This usually means upgrading the weapon first followed by the legs and chest and finally the helm. Upgrade trinkets at this time when you have the money to do this. They are helpful for organizing things and utilizing operations like intersection, union and differences to manage them effectively. Sets can be utilized in many ways, such as organizing the music on a playlist or classifying students according to their grades.
In Nioh the game, players utilize sets to provide special effects to players when they wear certain pieces of an Armor Set. These bonuses are called Set Bonuses and they are superior to Effects. While it's not explained in-universe why the armor sets must be worn together to produce these effects, they can provide an interesting change of pace when playing the game. The armor sets that have Set Bonuses can be found in many locations in Hyrule including the Dark Moon Temple and Twilight Temple.
Set Bonuses are associated with each piece of equipment within a Set. You can find out the ones you are looking for by hovering over the item and examining the tooltip near the bottom. The Set Bonuses will show in the form of a red box.
Certain Set Bonuses are specific to a particular piece of equipment. If you have the complete Phantom Armor set, you will get +8 defense (instead of the standard +3 defense you receive with other gear). Certain sets can only be obtained by completing certain tasks or by purchasing them from the Auction House.
